If you’re interested in joining the newsletter staff, please continue reading.

Upcoming full-time positions:

None.

Back-up positions are always open; back-up editors are editors that compile when normal editors need a day off or take over when another editor has to leave the staff.

Final Fantasy Press is a very busy newsletter. It rarely carries less than 20 links an issue. Compiling an issue can take anywhere from thirty minutes to two hours, although the latter case doesn't occur often. The newsletter is published between 7:00p.m. and 2:00a.m. every day (based on CDT/CST, North America), using a standardized template and following the newsletter header policy. Editors collect news from the following places: ff_presswatch, the previous issue, and the newsletter e-mail address.

Requirements:
1) Editors should be in control of their Internet access. If access can be taken away by parents, guardians, etc., so that you cannot compile or notify other editors that you’ll be away in a timely manner, you should not apply.

2) Editors have to list fanwork if it meets newsletter header policy, regardless of bias to particular persons or groups.

3) Editors are not allowed to miss issues! This causes problems for the editor compiling the next day. Reliability and ability in communicating with other staff members to find backup is a big plus.

4) There are currently eight canons in which fanwork or meta features often: Final Fantasies IV, VII, Advent Children, Crisis Core, VIII, X, X-2, and XII. Editors must be familiar with at least four of these canons; being an editor will be difficult if not versed in them. Background in Final Fantasy VII Compilation canon is especially encouraged. Please remember that Final Fantasy is a macrofandom, making us a special case multi-fandom newsletter.

5) Editors will be required to learn a nominal amount about canons with which they are unfamiliar to know how to list certain fanwork. Spoilers are an issue. If there are older games you haven't played or you’re concerned that you may be spoiled for unreleased games by being an editor (the Ivalice Alliance, Final Fantasy XIII and sister games), this might not be the job for you! There is a chance of being spoiled performing this fandom service.

Please note that editing the newsletter will likely involve exposure to spoilers and fanworks that don't suit your taste; tedious days with single fans posting dozens of fanworks; and dealing politely with people whose work you may have mislisted, who misunderstood the newsletter policies, or who have other questions or concerns. Even if you find some of these fanworks offensive or some of these people rude, you would still have to list everything fairly and be polite at all times, so you should probably have a tough skin and plenty of patience.

Benefits:
The warm glow of a job well done and a fandom served for one more day.

Please think the decision to apply through! It's hard for us to schedule training times specially only to have people back out or inform us they've made other commitments before hearing from us — being sure saves everyone time. Fill out an application and send it to ff.press@gmail.com. We'll look over it and get back to you as soon as possible. :D

Application:

How long have you been involved in the Final Fantasy fandom?

Are you familiar with four of the eight canons featured regularly on the newsletter? What other canons do you have experience with?

Which position are you interested in?

If you'd like to, feel free to tell us why you want to be an ff_press editor and what you want to get out of the experience.
